💃🏽 Appointed Vice President of the Ibero-American NATS Chapter, Megan looks forward to building community, inspiring collaboration, and amplifying the voices of artists who share a connection to the Ibero-American world.
🎶 Dr. Barrera will present at the NATS National Conference 2026 in San Antonio, collaborating with Dr. Zuly Inirio to share Islas Resonantes, a session on Caribbean vocal traditions and pedagogy.
🎶 Megan will appear as soprano soloist in Requiem in D minor, K. 626 by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart in Macon, Georgia. Dr. Barrera joins distinguished collaborators in bringing this iconic masterwork to life in a performance that highlights both dramatic intensity and lyrical beauty.

So grateful that my family came to St. Louis to see me perform Roméo et Juliette. Having them there meant the world to me. In the middle of a busy performance week, we even managed to sneak in a visit to the Gateway Arch — one of those simple moments that made the whole trip even more special.

Feeling incredibly blessed to share these experiences with the people who support and love me the most. ❤️

Thank you for believing in me on the days when I couldn’t quite believe in myself. Thank you for cheering me on before auditions, before curtain, before big ideas that felt a little too ambitious. You’ve been my calm voice in the chaos, and my biggest fan in every audience.

And let’s be honest… thank you for lovingly dealing with my “opera brain,” my production schedules, my obscene amount of papers, and all the beautiful madness that comes with me. 😅

You are my safe place, my laughter after a long rehearsal, and the reason I feel brave enough to keep dreaming bigger.

Now that I finally have a little airport downtime… thank you for all the beautiful birthday wishes 🤍 I’m sorry I didn’t reply sooner.

Plot twist: I lost my phone on the plane. I was on my hands and knees searching the entire aircraft, convinced it had been stolen. Filed a police report. Submitted a lost and found claim. The works.

It “reappeared”… but the plane had already landed back in Miami. So yes — I spent FIVE days without a cell phone. During tech week. Of all weeks.

I did sneak away to Miami to celebrate with family and have a few lessons with my teacher before singing this role — so all was not lost. I even got to run into a few former students!

And today? The flight crew asked if I got my phone back. They remembered me. 😂

Lesson learned. Birthday adventure unlocked. ✈️📱

What a tremendous honor to host Arlene Shrut for a three-day residency here at Georgia Southern University.

Watching Dr. Shrut work with our students was a masterclass in itself. Her constant reminder: it’s all on the page. Every articulation, every harmonic shift, every textual inflection already contains the dramatic truth. She challenged our singers to trust the score, to refine their stylistic awareness, and to honor the composer through precision and imagination.

On a personal note, I humbly asked if she would coach me on Juliette before I left for Winter Opera St. Louis and she graciously said, “let’s make music together”. What a thoughtful artist and generous human being.

We also shared a beautiful dinner at my colleague Allen Henderson’s home. It was an evening of connection and celebration.

Moments like these remind me why we do this work. Grateful for mentorship, collaboration, and the continual pursuit of excellence.
